River Mile: 108.2 or 108.5 - right
Time: 3 hours if starting from Bass camp. Thirty minutes to one hour if starting from the mouth of the creek.
Difficulty: Moderate from Bass camp. Easy from the creek mouth.
Wet or Dry?: Wet
Ideal Weather: Hot weather is best for enjoying the waterfall. Any weather is suitable for the hike over from Bass camp.
Potential: Shinumo Creek leads upstream for many miles.
There are a few ways to approach a hike at Shinumo Creek. The most common and easiest way is to simply pull in to the mouth of the creek and wade upstream from there. There is a waterfall only 75 yards from the river and most will be content to enjoy the falls and return to the boat. To make more of a hike out of it, some people get dropped off a Bass camp and hike a trail to Shinumo Creek, then re-join their party at the waterfall. This is he same route one would take if he were camped at Bass camp.
Below the falls, there is usually a great swimming hole, but sometimes it fills with gravel making it only knee-deep.
Springtime runoff can make Shinumo Creek too high for this route to be feasible. This usually has its risks too- Shinumo Creek is a big enough drainage to carry huge flash floods.
