Equipment plays a large role in producing the best products on a farm. Swathers and balers are used to cut the hay and bale it, preparing it for selling and distribution to wherever it needs to go.
Swathers cut alfalfa and come in different forms, sizes, and from several different brands. The swather of choice used by Dahlsrud Farms is the New Holland H8080. This swather model has a 120 gallon fuel cap, dual range hydrostatic transmission, 0-12.5mph working speed and 0-18 mph road speed. Balers collect cut alfalfa and roll it up into either a rectangular or circular shape. There are several styles available through different companies. Andrew Dahlsrud uses a Massey Ferguson Hesston 2100 series model. There are three models in the series collection; Andrew's model is called the 2190. The large square baler creates solid 4 X 4 bales.
