Corn

Corn products are a smaller focus for the farm, but still significant. Andrew produces two kinds of corn: sweet corn and silage corn. Sweet corn only makes up a small percentage of corn products produced on the farm.

Sweet corn is a plant with a high sugar content, grown for people to eat. It is the corn you would enjoy during summer barbeques, picnics, and family get-togethers. The sweet corn plant is developed to have young ears; the young ears make the corn sweet and appropriate for humans to eat. Sweet corn has many other names, including indian corn, sugar corn, pole corn, and simply, just corn. Andrew devotes a select number of acres each year to grow corn for friends and family.

The other type of corn is called silage corn, which is corn used to feed animals. Corn silage is a popular choice of food for grazing animals, such as sheep, cows, and goats, because it is high in energy and easy to digest. It also adapts easily from the stand-crop to time of feeding. Andrew sells his corn silage for dairy and beef cows. Corn silage has a light smell and can be any color from light brown to dark green.
